Jerret West, who has served as Xbox’s Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), is departing Microsoft to join Roblox as their new CMO and Head of Market Expansion. This transition was confirmed by Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer in an internal memo to employees.
During his tenure at Xbox, West played a pivotal role in shaping marketing strategies for games, hardware, and the globally acclaimed Xbox Game Pass. His efforts significantly expanded the Xbox social community to 120 million followers and facilitated the availability of Game Pass across more than 80 countries worldwide. Under his leadership, Xbox also launched impactful global marketing campaigns, including the highly successful Xbox Games Showcase.
West’s career path includes an earlier stint of eight years at Microsoft in Xbox marketing, followed by seven years as head of marketing at Netflix. He rejoined Microsoft in late 2019 to oversee the marketing initiatives for the Xbox Series X/S consoles.
This leadership change at Xbox comes amid broader organizational shifts within Microsoft’s gaming division. Earlier in April, Kareem Choudhry, who previously led Xbox’s emerging tech division, departed, prompting reorganizations that led to the establishment of new teams focused on enhancing user experiences across Windows and consoles.
Phil Spencer emphasized in his memo that Xbox remains committed to enhancing its marketing capabilities across different business units. Effective July 1st, organizational changes will realign marketing efforts, with Xbox marketing integrating more closely within the Xbox team, international marketing moving under the Consumer Sales Org, and a centralized marketing team reporting directly to him.
West’s departure marks another chapter in Xbox’s evolving leadership strategy as it navigates the competitive landscape of the gaming industry and continues to innovate under Microsoft’s broader gaming ambitions.
