Google Cloud announced on Tuesday that Chris DeRusha, formerly a Chief Information Security Officer in government, has joined the company as its worldwide public sector compliance director. According to the company, DeRusha will concentrate on expanding Google Cloud’s range of advanced products and services—including AI, cloud computing, and security—for public sector clients globally.
DeRusha assumed his new role on June 17, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the company to Nextgov/FCW. Previously, he served as the government CISO until his resignation last month. During his tenure, he also held the position of deputy national cyber director for government cybersecurity at the Office of the National Cyber Director. In his capacity as federal cyber chief, DeRusha oversaw the implementation of key cyber initiatives such as the federal zero trust policy and enhanced software security measures.
Reporting to Jeanette Manfra, Google Cloud’s global director of security and compliance, DeRusha brings extensive experience from his prior roles, including as Michigan’s top information security officer and CISO for President Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign. His achievements were recognized with Fed 100 awards in 2023, underscoring his leadership in advancing federal cybersecurity directives.
