French auto component manufacturer OPmobility, formerly known as Plastic Omnium, has appointed GK Sharma as the region chairperson for its India operations. Sharma, who previously served as India Country Director for the exterior business, will now also oversee OPmobility’s strategic initiatives as it aims to bolster its presence in the Indian market.
OPmobility specializes in car modules such as bumpers, tailgates, exterior systems, and plastic fuel tank systems. In recent years, the company expanded its portfolio by acquiring Varroc Engineering’s four-wheeler lighting business.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Sharma announced his new role on LinkedIn, highlighting his commitment to advancing OPmobility’s strategic vision in India. He will report directly to OPmobility’s Chief Executive Officer, Laurent Favre, leveraging his extensive experience in the automotive sector to propel the company’s growth trajectory.
Favre, discussing OPmobility’s ambitious plans, emphasized a target to double turnover from the Indian market to 400 million euros over the next five years. Despite China, the US, and Germany currently being the company’s major markets by turnover, Favre sees significant growth potential in India, driven by burgeoning vehicle sales.
OPmobility currently operates four manufacturing plants in India located in Pune, Chennai, Sanand, and Gurgaon, with plans underway to establish another facility in Pune dedicated to exterior systems. The company’s strategy focuses on meeting the rising demand within the domestic market, with no immediate plans for exports from India.
As OPmobility strengthens its foothold in India’s automotive landscape under Sharma’s leadership, the company anticipates robust growth fueled by its diverse product offerings and strategic expansion initiatives.
