Isidro Porqueras has been appointed as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of IndiGo. With more than couple of decades of experience across operations, strategy, and finance, Isidro Porqueras takes on this pivotal role following his tenure at Volotea, a Spanish low-cost airline, where he also served as COO. He succeeds Wolfgang Prock Schauer, who has been leading IndiGo’s operations since long.
IndiGo, India’s largest airline, is currently in the midst of significant leadership changes as it focuses on global expansion. In addition to Isidro Porqueras’ appointment, the airline is seeing transitions in its engineering and in-flight services departments, with long-standing executives SC Gupta and Suman Chopra retiring. These changes are part of IndiGo’s broader strategy to enhance its operational capabilities as it grows into a global airline.
The appointment of Isidro Porqueras comes at a crucial time as IndiGo embarks on its next phase of growth. Recently, the airline made a historic order of several Airbus A350-900 aircraft, marking its entry into the long-haul market. As IndiGo expands beyond short-haul services, Isidro Porqueras’ vast experience in operations will be critical in executing the airline’s strategic vision and ensuring smooth transitions during this period of expansion.
IndiGo’s future plans also include the introduction of a premium class on its Airbus A321 aircraft for short-haul international routes, designed to cater to business travelers. With these developments, Isidro Porqueras is expected to play a key role in strengthening IndiGo’s operations and helping the airline achieve its global ambitions.
