Sunil Kakkar has been appointed as the Corporate Planning Director at Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., becoming the first Indian to hold this position on the company’s board. His appointment is effective from April 1, 2025, and will continue for a period of three years until March 31, 2028.
Sunil, a veteran with 35 years at Maruti Suzuki, currently heads the corporate planning vertical and is a key member of the Executive Committee. He has played a significant role in shaping the company’s strategic roadmap, restructuring initiatives, and localization efforts. Throughout his career, he has held leadership positions, including heading the supply chain vertical and overseeing Gurgaon’s production operations.
An IIT Kanpur engineering graduate and gold medalist MBA from the Asian Institute of Technology, Sunil has also contributed to joint ventures with global companies for key projects in automotive technology. He serves as a director on the boards of several Maruti Suzuki associate companies and holds leadership roles in industry bodies such as SIAM and ASSOCHAM.
His appointment underscores Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to strengthening its leadership team and driving long-term strategic growth.
