Takashi Nakajima Appointed as President and CEO of Honda Cars India

Takashi Nakajima has been appointed as the new President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Honda Cars India. This leadership change marks a significant development for the company as it looks to strengthen its position in the Indian automobile market. Nakajima is set to take charge from April 2025, succeeding Takuya Tsumura, who has been leading the company since 2022.

With a career spanning over three decades, Nakajima brings extensive global experience to his new role. Having joined Honda in 1994, he has held senior leadership positions across multiple international markets, including Japan, China, Spain, Czech Republic, and Russia. His expertise in business planning, marketing, product strategy, and sales promotion makes him well-suited to steer Honda Cars India through its next phase of growth.

Before this appointment, Nakajima served as the President of Honda Motor Russia since 2021. During his tenure there, he was responsible for overseeing the company’s operations while also managing product planning and corporate communications for Honda in Japan. His broad exposure to diverse markets and deep understanding of the automotive sector are expected to add significant value to Honda’s India operations.

Takuya Tsumura, who will soon return to Honda’s headquarters in Japan, played a pivotal role during his time in India. Under his leadership, Honda introduced key models such as the City hybrid, Elevate, and Amaze, which have been integral to the company’s recent strategy. Tsumura also laid the groundwork for Honda’s upcoming electric vehicle, anticipated to make its debut in India soon, reflecting his vision for innovation and sustainability.

As Nakajima takes over the reins, he will be tasked with driving Honda’s strategy in a competitive and evolving Indian automotive market. The company is expected to focus on expanding its product portfolio, especially in the hybrid and electric vehicle segments, to meet the shifting preferences of Indian consumers. Nakajima’s prior experience in product and market planning will be critical in executing these plans.

Honda Cars India continues to hold a significant presence in the Indian market, and this leadership transition comes at a time when the brand is preparing to strengthen its offerings and customer engagement. With Nakajima’s appointment, the company aims to build on its legacy while adapting to the changing automotive landscape driven by technology and environmental considerations.

Takashi Nakajima’s diverse international experience and deep-rooted association with Honda are expected to play a vital role in shaping the company’s future in India. His leadership is anticipated to bring fresh perspectives and innovative strategies to enhance Honda’s growth trajectory in one of the world’s most dynamic automotive markets.
