Ajay Bhadoo has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Government e Marketplace (GeM), the Government of India’s largest digital procurement platform, effective March 3, 2025. Currently serving as Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce, Bhadoo will continue his existing responsibilities while leading GeM’s transformation into a next-generation marketplace powered by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). With over two decades of experience in governance, policy implementation, and urban infrastructure development, Bhadoo brings deep expertise in public administration and digital transformation.
A 1999-batch IAS officer from the Gujarat cadre, Bhadoo has held several key positions, including Deputy Election Commissioner at the Election Commission of India and Joint Secretary to former President Ram Nath Kovind. He has also served as CEO of the Gujarat Maritime Board and Commissioner of Rajkot and Vadodara Municipal Corporations, contributing significantly to infrastructure growth and policy execution. His educational background includes a degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s in Business Law from the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru.
Under Bhadoo’s leadership, Government e Marketplace (GeM) is poised to strengthen its role in driving transparency, efficiency, and accessibility in government procurement. With a Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of Rs 4.58 lakh crore and a 28.65% year-on-year growth, GeM has become a vital platform for startups and small businesses. Women entrepreneurs play an increasingly significant role, with 1,77,786 Udyam-verified women MSEs having completed orders worth Rs 46,615 crore.
