Kamal Basu has been elevated to Executive Director and Chief Growth Officer at McCann Worldgroup India. Since early 2023, Basu has been a part of McCann’s leadership team, and this elevation marks a strategic move by the agency to strengthen its business development and partnership strategies in an evolving market landscape.
Basu brings with him over three decades of multi-sectoral experience across advertising, automobiles, and business consulting. Most recently, he operated as a business consultant, focusing on brand and business development projects and serving as a board member for a leading finance company. Prior to that, he led digital acceleration initiatives at Petromin Corporation as GM Digitisation & Acceleration Project Leader, where he collaborated with global consultants to drive new business verticals and digital transformation strategies.
Earlier, he held a global advisory role with an international communications company, where he led brand positioning, IP marketing, and stakeholder alignment across geographies. In the automotive sector, Basu held pivotal roles at Nissan and Volkswagen India. At Nissan, he focused on new mobility solutions and brand communication strategies for launches such as Nissan Kicks and Datsun GO. During his tenure as Head of Marketing & PR at Volkswagen India, he successfully launched marquee models like Tiguan and Passat, and led integrated marketing across product, PR, CRM, and digital.
Before his corporate stints, Basu built a formidable career in advertising—holding leadership roles at agencies such as Rediffusion DY&R, Ogilvy, and Saatchi & Saatchi, where he served as CEO in India. At McCann, his expanded role will encompass spearheading strategic partnerships, accelerating business growth, and shaping future-facing client solutions across the India network.
