Rajat Sharma, Chairman of India TV, has been elected as the President of the News Broadcasters & Digital Association (NBDA) for the 2024-25 term. This marks Sharma’s second tenure as President, succeeding Avinash Pandey, the former CEO of ABP Network. The election took place during the NBDA board meeting held on July 9, 2024.
The NBDA is the largest organization of news broadcasters in India, encompassing nearly all major news networks in the country. Sharma addressed the significant challenges facing the news broadcast industry, noting a concentrated effort to discredit the industry. He emphasized that a section of the digital media is being misused to constantly attack news broadcasters and stressed the importance of working together to combat this issue.
Sharma also highlighted the pressures faced by those in the news industry, pointing out that editors, anchors, and reporters are being targeted and working under tremendous pressure. He mentioned that an ecosystem has been created to consistently threaten their credibility, and it is the responsibility of the association to ensure that these professionals operate in a fearless atmosphere to deliver fair news.
