Hindalco Industries Limited has appointed Rakesh Patel as Vice President – Projects and Operations/Technical. This new role marks a significant step in Patel’s distinguished career, which spans over 24 years in the metal and chemical industries, with a strong focus on copper refining, precious metal refining, and project management.
In his current position at Hindalco Industries Limited, Patel will oversee the development and management of a Greenfield project dedicated to E-waste and copper recycling. His responsibilities will include the establishment of a state-of-the-art smelter and precious metal recovery plant, as well as the expansion of the copper refinery operations.
Patel’s career trajectory includes notable roles at prominent organizations. Prior to joining Hindalco, he served as General Manager at Adani Enterprises Limited, leading copper refinery and project operations at Kutch Copper Ltd. His tenure at Adani Enterprises spanned over three years, where he was pivotal in managing refinery operations, project planning, and technical operations.
Before his time at Adani, Patel worked with Glencore at Mopani Copper Mines Plc in Zambia as Copper Refinery Superintendent. His responsibilities included overseeing production and process management, project and manpower management, and HSE management. His leadership at Mopani was characterized by his focus on improving product quality, enhancing team performance, and managing capital expenditure projects.
Patel’s career began at Jhagadia Copper Limited, where he worked as a Process Engineer. He managed shift activities, quality control, and coordinated with maintenance teams, laying a solid foundation for his future roles in the industry.
Educationally, Patel holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from Gujarat University Ahmedabad. His extensive experience and educational background make him a valuable asset to Hindalco Industries Limited as he steps into this critical role.
