Britannia Industries Limited, a prominent Indian multinational food products company, has announced the appointment of Urjit Patel as an additional non-executive independent director.
Urjit Patel, renowned for his tenure as the 24th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) from 2016 to 2018, brings a wealth of experience to the Britannia board. His notable career includes serving as Deputy Governor at the RBI from 2013, overseeing key areas such as monetary policy, economic research, and financial market operations. Additionally, Patel played a significant role in international finance groups, including the G-20 and BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors groups.
In his recent professional journey, Patel held the position of Vice President (Investment Operations Region 1) at the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank from 2022 to 2024. Currently, he chairs the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, further underscoring his extensive expertise in financial governance and policy-making.
Joining Patel in this new chapter at Britannia Industries is Sunil Siddharth Lalbhai, Chairman and Managing Director of Atul Limited, who has also been appointed as an independent non-executive director. Their combined experience is expected to bring valuable insights and strategic direction to Britannia, a company with a rich history dating back to its founding in 1892 and now a key part of the Wadia Group, led by Nusli Wadia.
With these strategic appointments, Britannia Industries aims to strengthen its governance framework and drive forward its mission of innovation and excellence in the food products sector.
